Tunnel face consolidation
When tunnels or headings are driven, the tunnel face requires initial stabilization preparatory to further support and securing measures. Such preliminary works may, for example, be required after blasting, where unstable formations are encountered or where advance injections are needed to seal off water-bearing strata. In most cases, tunnel face consolidation is only one element in a comprehensive consolidation and waterproofing package.
A range of injection products is available, with selection depending on the tunnelling method. Polyurethane products are the best choice for conventional blasting. Their considerable versatility allows stabilization and waterproofing to be combined in a single operation. An alternative option involves the use of innovative hybrid systems, which combine cost-effectiveness with high flexibility. This product family includes RASCOhybrid HMS317, which offers the best stabilization and support solution for tunnelling and shaft sinking applications.
Silicate resins, on the other hand, are ideal for use in conjunction with tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Their low adhesion make them very easy to cut and plane. They also cure very rapidly with or without water contact.
